Upright: The Shift Is Already Moving

Upright Death in a love position says the change is underway, whether either person has named it yet or not. If the relationship has felt like it's outgrowing its current shape — old roles, old routines, an old version of who you both were when it started — this is the card that confirms it rather than invents it. Nothing about this card requires the change to be unwelcome.

Reversed: One Person Is Holding the Door Shut

Reversed, the same shift is happening, but something is resisting it. In practice this usually looks like one partner ready to move forward — deeper commitment, a real conversation, an ending — while the other stays in the version of the relationship that's already finished, out of comfort, fear, or simple inertia.
